My Top Ten Favorite Fighting Games

Posted on November 6, 2018

I’ve recently been trying to re-focus my blog to a more personal direction, writing creative non-fiction and tales from my childhood. Yet, the other “segments” I’ve created for my blog, such as Top Ten – still call to me. I feel like it’s time to do another. As I was wondering what subject I should write about for this installment of Top Ten, the idea hit me like a massive Hadouken. I should totally do a Top Ten based around my love for fighting games. I’ve always been a big fan of fighting games, though I was never good at them. Because the games usually focus only on fighting, a big chunk of the art direction goes into making the graphics as slick as…

Cosplay Confessions: Brandon The Shapeshifter Cosplay

Posted on July 23, 2015

Cosplay Confessions is yet another monthly feature I’ve added to my blog. Every month (and maybe twice a month) if I can, I plan on featuring a different cosplayer and my interview with them, along with photos featuring their cosplay. This will not only be beneficial to the cosplayers themselves – because any publicity is good publicity when it comes to updating your fans on which conventions you’ll be at, and what you’re working on – but it will also be beneficial to those who are interested in cosplay as a hobby. Since this is a new feature, I have asked some cosplayers I know to fill out my questions and it’s my great pleasure to introduce a very prolific and talented cosplayer I…

Away With Words Is One Year Old – Thank You

Posted on May 7, 2015

Wow – a lot has happened in a year. I switched job locations so that I’d cut out 100 hours of driving time per week. I graduated from Stonecoast, my MFA program. I moved in with my girlfriend to one of the biggest cities in Maine (yeah, yeah – I can hear you laughing from here…but it’s a cool city). I also had lots of fun and attended many conventions and family events. And, of course, my blog slowly made changes, too. I added the feature called Friend Files where I showcased one of my friends with each entry and why I appreciate them. I added the feature called Cosplay Confessions where I interviewed a cosplayer and asked them some basic questions about their…

Bangor Comic And Toy Con Happened, And I Had A Blast

Posted on May 2, 2015

As many of you already know, I often attend conventions. These can be any sort of conventions, really. Facial hair, comic book, pop culture, anime – whatever. I love conventions, I love cosplaying (or costuming, for you semantics-oriented people out there) and I love the atmosphere. My comic convention of choice since around 2011 was Coast City Comicon. I started going there the year I became separated from my now ex-wife. I went there because, at the time, I didn’t have much else to look forward to or do. If I didn’t occupy myself in some way, I was going to go crazy. My response to that was dressing up like David Bowie’s character from the movie Labyrinth and going to my first ever…

My Top Ten Favorite Marvel Comics Characters

Posted on March 13, 2015

I do a lot of interviews with this blog between my Friend Files, Cosplay Confessions, and Eight Simple Questions features. One thing I haven’t really done is indulge in a bit of personal fun with an interview of my own. I mean, what’s the use of having my own blog if I can’t rant about my favorite foods, movies, etc? So with this post, I’m going to write about my top ten favorite Marvel Comics characters. Marvel Comics has been the bread and butter of my comic book reading since I was around three years old. I used to draw the characters, pretend I was them, write about them, and play with their action figure equivalents. There are many Marvel Comics titles I’ve kept…

Cosplay Confessions: Solveig Bjorndottr Cosplay

Cosplay Confessions is yet another monthly feature I’m adding to my blog. Every month, I plan on featuring a different cosplayer and my interview with them, along with photos featuring their cosplays. This will not only be beneficial to the cosplayers themselves – because any publicity is good publicity when it comes to updating your fans on which conventions you’ll be at, and what you’re working on – but it will also be beneficial to those who are interested in cosplay as a hobby. Since this is a new feature, I have asked some cosplayers I know to fill out my questions and it’s my great pleasure to introduce a local cosplayer who has become a friend and who is very talented – Lauren…
