My Top Ten Favorite Fighting Games

Posted on November 6, 2018

I’ve recently been trying to re-focus my blog to a more personal direction, writing creative non-fiction and tales from my childhood. Yet, the other “segments” I’ve created for my blog, such as Top Ten – still call to me. I feel like it’s time to do another. As I was wondering what subject I should write about for this installment of Top Ten, the idea hit me like a massive Hadouken. I should totally do a Top Ten based around my love for fighting games. I’ve always been a big fan of fighting games, though I was never good at them. Because the games usually focus only on fighting, a big chunk of the art direction goes into making the graphics as slick as…

My Top Ten Favorite Comedy Movies

Posted on August 9, 2018

Well, we’re right in the middle of summer and at the theaters right now, people are lining up to see their favorite summer blockbuster action films. I love action films – and you can see my Top Ten Favorite Action Films right HERE – but I think one of my favorite genres is Comedy. Whenever my wife and I sit down to watch a movie during dinner, or whenever I want to wind down for the night if I’m by myself, I pop in one of my favorite comedy films. Just like the rest of the other Top Ten lists on my blog (you can see the entire list under the Categories tab on my main page, under Top Ten), this list is numbered…

Ghosts of Portland

Posted on July 4, 2018

This city has many ghosts. I’ve been called one myself, off and on, since I started walking the streets of Portland. Each cobblestone marred with gum and cigarette butts, each rooftop covered in bird shit, each wall covered in graffiti and hobo piss – they’re all markers for times come and gone, days passed. Down on the wharf, I see myself taking waltzing lessons from a girlfriend in the moonlight, both of us laughing while I’m too self-conscious to take the steps. Though I really could if I could just overtake that anxiety (because I’m an okay dancer) broiling inside me. She appreciates my effort. Unfortunately, that’s about the only time in that relationship I put any effort in. She was a nice girl.…

My Top Ten Favorite Marvel Comics Characters

Posted on March 13, 2015

I do a lot of interviews with this blog between my Friend Files, Cosplay Confessions, and Eight Simple Questions features. One thing I haven’t really done is indulge in a bit of personal fun with an interview of my own. I mean, what’s the use of having my own blog if I can’t rant about my favorite foods, movies, etc? So with this post, I’m going to write about my top ten favorite Marvel Comics characters. Marvel Comics has been the bread and butter of my comic book reading since I was around three years old. I used to draw the characters, pretend I was them, write about them, and play with their action figure equivalents. There are many Marvel Comics titles I’ve kept…

How An SNES Game Called Chrono Trigger Proves That Video Games Are Art.

Posted on February 6, 2015

Many people will tell you that video games are not, and can not be art. The Guardian (UK) wrote a piece about it a while back you can read HERE. The late Roger Ebert also once did a piece on the subject, which you can read HERE if you’d like. In fact, search Google and you can rest assured that you will find countless opinion pieces in which people propose all sorts of ways in which video games shouldn’t be considered art. Some of the reasons are simple, such as the Guardian’s claims that since video games don’t originate from one source, they cannot be artwork. Others are more heavy-handed in describing ways in which “high” art can make one think and feel where…
