Anxiety

Posted on November 11, 2018

Anxiety is a fickle thing, and it lies dormant within your brain, your soul, until you least expect it. It often rears its head at the most inopportune and vulnerable moments and leaves you scared it will happen again. I have wrestled a lot with anxiety in my life, and it stems from multiple events – and the symptoms are triggered when my body is attacked by lots of different stress all at once or over a long period of time. The first time I had a “real” panic attack, I was sitting on the couch at home by myself. My wife at the time had just gone to work, and I was eating re-heated stuffed shells that her mother had made for us…

THE WRITE LIFE: Erin Enberg

Posted on August 4, 2018

Because of the fact that writers, more often than not, are solitary creatures – who spend their days and nights locked up in dank basements or sweltering attics – we often get a bad rap. We are seen as creatures of the night, as unapproachable, as shady. So, what I wanted to do was to highlight some of my friends and peers who are in the field and show the world that writers are people, too…and we sometimes have good advice. With that in mind, I want to introduce to you all a good friend of mine from high school, who has grown into an accomplished woman in the writing field and even helped me to get into my MFA program, Stonecoast. SUMMER 2018 UPDATE

Posted on July 24, 2018

*Photo courtesy Peyton Carro It’s summer, and as most of you no doubt understand – Summer is a time for activity. My wife Peyton and I try to do something at least once a week which involves travel of some sort, and coupled with a full-time job in the retail world with a changing schedule, I rarely have time to finish my blog posts when I want to so I figured I’d at least drop in and let y’all know what I’ve been doing here in the wilds of Maine. First – the travel I mentioned. I’ve long come to terms with the fact that I will never be a globe-trotter. I do, however, travel extensively on a local level. Since Spring started, I’ve…

Friend Files #26: Kate Salvato

Posted on December 1, 2016

Friend Files is a feature I added to my blog, Away With Words, a while back – this being the 26th installment. Past installments appear under the “Friend Files” tag on my blog. I will be interviewing a friend of mine and showcasing why they are a friend to me and what I like about them, and also a mini-interview (five questions) that detail what they think of me. It’s a way to acknowledge my friends out there and what they’re up to and also to introduce them to my larger group of friends, acquaintances, and anyone else who might be interested in reading online. Today, I will be talking about Kate Salvato. Before I get into what I think of her, here is my mini-interview with Kate (exchanged…

Friend Files is a new feature I’ve added to Away With Words, this being just the fifteenth installment. I will be interviewing a friend of mine and showcasing why they are a friend to me and what I like about them, and also a mini-interview (five questions) that detail what they think of me. It’s a way to acknowledge my friends out there and what they’re up to and also introduce them to my larger group of friends, acquaintances, and anyone else who might be interested in reading. Today, I will be talking about Amanda Ravange. Before I get into what I think of her, here is my mini-interview with Amanda (exchanged over Facebook) where she jotted down just a few thoughts:   AMANDA RAVANGE’S FRIEND FILES…
