Whenever I get too down on myself, it’s mostly because I’ve become too caught up in my everyday life. Work, bills, laundry, taxes, dishes, etc. No matter what I do to try to remedy the “everyday blues” – it can be hard to pull myself from the oppressive black hole of the mundane. At that point, I try to take stock of my surroundings. I remember that ultimately it’s the things I choose to do, the things I’ve been courageous enough to try, the things I partake in to set off the constant edge I feel. Ghosts of Portland

This city has many ghosts. I’ve been called one myself, off and on, since I started walking the streets of Portland. Each cobblestone marred with gum and cigarette butts, each rooftop covered in bird shit, each wall covered in graffiti and hobo piss – they’re all markers for times come and gone, days passed. Down on the wharf, I see myself taking waltzing lessons from a girlfriend in the moonlight, both of us laughing while I’m too self-conscious to take the steps. Though I really could if I could just overtake that anxiety (because I’m an okay dancer) broiling inside me. She appreciates my effort. Horror films have made leaps and bounds over the years in terms of what scares the general public and what chills the blood. Since it’s now October, I’m going to take some time and list my TOP TEN FAVORITE HORROR FILMS in honor of my favorite month. 10. FRAILTY PLOT: A man confesses to an FBI agent his family’s story of how his religious fanatic father’s visions lead to a series of murders to destroy supposed “demons.” WHY I LOVE IT: Frailty is one of those films that is severely underrated not just as a film in general – but also as a horror film.
