Defeating the Darkness

Posted on November 13, 2018

Whenever I get too down on myself, it’s mostly because I’ve become too caught up in my everyday life. Work, bills, laundry, taxes, dishes, etc. No matter what I do to try to remedy the “everyday blues” – it can be hard to pull myself from the oppressive black hole of the mundane. At that point, I try to take stock of my surroundings. I remember that ultimately it’s the things I choose to do, the things I’ve been courageous enough to try, the things I partake in to set off the constant edge I feel. Those things are all more important to me in the long run than the momentary stresses and anxiety of the day-to-day. I’m no musician, but I’ve spent a…

“The two friends often were mischievous and were repeatedly reprimanded by their superiors. Once, my grandfather ordered a Monopoly board game set for something to do. Charlie had an idea and threw away everything except for the board and the dice and the two of them set it up like a craps table.”

All Aboard The Blog Train

Posted on September 2, 2015

Before I get too far with this post, I do have to say that this particular entry is part of a “blog train”, featuring mostly fellow writers from the Stonecoast MFA program – from which I graduated. It’s really a brilliant idea, suggested by my friend J.R. Dawson (I’ll link you up to her blog later, as part of the ‘train’) and it’s a way to help promote fellow bloggers and writers. If you like any of my stuff, you may want to check out some of their blogs as well, since we all pretty much learned our craft from the same set of people. Hello. My name is Joseph Adam Carro, and I’m a writer. I even have a BFA and an MFA I…

So, I figured for my second Top Ten list, I’d post my TOP TEN FAVORITE DANCE SONGS. This is going to be fun. Let me know what your favorite songs are in the comments! 10. FOOTLOOSE – KENNY LOGGINS Footloose is one of those songs that’s just never going to go away for me.…

Friend Files #2 – Tyler Gaylord

Posted on December 30, 2014

Friend Files is a new feature I’ve added to Away With Words, this being just the second installment. I will be interviewing a friend of mine and showcasing why they are a friend to me and what I like about them, and also a mini-interview (five questions) that detail what they think of me. It’s a way to acknowledge my friends out there and what they’re up to and introduce them to my larger group of friends, acquaintances, and anyone else who might be interested in reading. Today, I will be talking about Tyler Gaylord. Before I get into what I think of him, here is my mini-interview with Tyler (exchanged over e-mail, since he’s in California currently) where he jotted down just a few…
