My Top Ten Favorite Fighting Games

Posted on November 6, 2018

I’ve recently been trying to re-focus my blog to a more personal direction, writing creative non-fiction and tales from my childhood. Yet, the other “segments” I’ve created for my blog, such as Top Ten – still call to me. I feel like it’s time to do another. As I was wondering what subject I should write about for this installment of Top Ten, the idea hit me like a massive Hadouken. I should totally do a Top Ten based around my love for fighting games. I’ve always been a big fan of fighting games, though I was never good at them. Because the games usually focus only on fighting, a big chunk of the art direction goes into making the graphics as slick as…

The Poor Pallbearer

Posted on September 19, 2016

I stared at the small woman in the casket. She was a stranger to me, and I only knew one of those people among me who mourned her death; my girlfriend, who I was in a failing relationship with. This was one of those instances where I deeply wanted to be there for her, as a sign of effort, of solidarity. It was a small gathering, at a funeral home in New York State. I stood there in my pinstripe blazer, the one I’d purchased back when I first made the bonehead mistake of getting a credit card in my youth. The blazer and my black dress shirt, and my black jeans, and my beat-up dress shoes I wore to work which were covered…

Friend Files #25 – Amanda White

Posted on August 8, 2016

Friend Files is a feature I added to my blog, Away With Words, a while back – this being the 25th installment. Past installments appear under the “Friend Files” tag on my blog. I will be interviewing a friend of mine and showcasing why they are a friend to me and what I like about them, and also a mini-interview (five questions) that detail what they think of me. It’s a way to acknowledge my friends out there and what they’re up to and also to introduce them to my larger group of friends, acquaintances, and anyone else who might be interested in reading online. Today, I will be talking about Amanda White. Before I get into what I think of her, here is my mini-interview with Amanda (exchanged…

Lady In Black

Posted on June 21, 2016

The weather is right for writing, and so I finally finished a tiny piece I have been working on off and on. It was inspired by a few different things, mainly an exercise I’ve been doing to try to jumpstart my writing on my blog. A writing exercise, if you will. You can see my previous story  – Lady In Red – HERE. I think I have a few more ladies to write about, so don’t you worry. They’re all going to follow a color and theme I have associated with them. Let me know what you think. ========================================================================== When she looks at me with those eyes of hers, I feel myself burning up. My timbers start smoking, things grow unstable within my frame.…

Study Of Clouds

Posted on June 13, 2016

Hey, all. I was home the other night and some clouds in the sky inspired me to write a tiny piece of fiction, which I originally posted only to Facebook – but figured since I’ve been trying to post more flash fiction via writing exercises on this blog, then why not here as well? It’s nothing too crazy, just a really short writing piece. Maybe it’ll lead to something bigger. Enjoy – and let me know what you think in the comments. PS – the painting I mention in the fiction is the one I used for the default photo of this blog post – ‘Study Of Clouds’ by John Constable. ————————————————————————– There’s a fog drifting over the city like battle smoke, but the…

Friend Files #24 – Nicole Davis-Marquis

Posted on May 29, 2016

Friend Files is a feature I added to my blog, Away With Words, a while back – this being the 24th installment – as well as a very special edition, which I will talk about shortly. Today, I will be talking about my good friend…

Cosplay Confessions: Mink The Satyr Cosplay

Posted on October 27, 2015

Cosplay Confessions is yet another monthly feature I’ve added to my blog, though I’ve recently gotten a bunch of submissions so I may do it twice monthly if this persists. Every month (and maybe twice a month), I plan on featuring a different cosplayer and my interview with them, along with photos featuring their cosplays. This will not only be beneficial to the cosplayers themselves – because any publicity is good publicity when it comes to updating your fans on which conventions you’ll be at, and what you’re working on – but it will also be beneficial to those who are interested in cosplay as a hobby. Since this is a new feature, I have asked some cosplayers I know to fill out my…
